Oro Valley Mayor Joe Winfield recognized the Pups baseball team on Wednesday, Oct. 21, for a top-16 finish at a youth tournament in Cooperstown, New York.

The 12-player, Oro Valley-based squad competed July 24-30 against 104 teams from across the United States and its territories, according to the mayor's proclamation. The Pups compiled a 6-2 record and finished among the top 16, the proclamation stated.

Winfield issued the proclamation on behalf of the Town Council and the community. He congratulated the players, their coaches and their parents for what the document called an "outstanding performance at the 2026 Cooperstown baseball tournament."

The proclamation credited coaches for helping the young athletes develop their skills and character. It also recognized parents and families for their support in making the trip to New York possible.

The Pups' Instagram account posted about the Oct. 21 recognition, calling it "a proud moment for every player on this team."

The town's official honor came nearly three months after the July tournament.
