Catalina State Park has reopened after flooding shut down the Oro Valley park for more than a day.
Floodwaters from the Cañada del Oro wash swept mud and debris across the entrance road on Sunday, Nov. 1, forcing a full closure. As of 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, water was still rushing across the main park road, according to KVOA. Maintenance crews could not begin clearing the road while water continued to flow.
Park officials said Monday they could not provide a reopening timeline.
As of Tuesday, Nov. 3, the park's official website states the park has reopened after removal of mud and debris. The site warns visitors to watch for flowing water in washes, construction vehicles and eroded trails that remain in the aftermath.
The closure came as heavy rainfall swept across Arizona on Sunday, triggering flash flooding and highway closures statewide, AZFamily reported.
A separate wash crossing construction project at the park that began the week of Oct. 19 is expected to continue through May 2027, according to the state parks website. Construction vehicles and workers will be present on the main road during that period.
Visitors can check for updates on the park's website, its Facebook page or by calling the park office at 520-628-5798 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.
